Give Life to Your Story

“She is immature and loses her temper fast; everything is always so dramatic,” was a comment shared by an adult regarding the teenage girl of another family.  I have to admit the comment was accurate but it was said in a very “disposable” way.  Stated another way the adult was saying, “My kids don’t behave that way, she has a lot of growing up to do because she is a bad influence on my kids!”
Twenty years ago, when my kids were young, I may have viewed it the same way.  I grew up in a wonderful loving family, and I provided that environment for my kids who are now grown and married.  Don’t get me wrong, my three boys were not angels.  There were times our friends who did not have kids would give us “THAT LOOK”.  But as time went on, I removed the filters of my life experiences from my eyes and began to view kids differently.
This troubled young teenage girl was raised in a home where drugs and alcohol were always present.  This combination always added fuel to the heated arguments and immature behavior of the PARENTS. She was responding the only way she knew how, temper tantrums, exactly what she learned.  She literally knew no other way.  Her tantrums were a flashing red light trying to send the message “Hello, I am here! Does anyone notice? Does anyone care?”
The filters of our life experiences can cause us to misunderstand and misinterpret the actions of teenagers.  It is easy to develop a “disposable” attitude because “….this is not my kid”.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)

Kids are not disposable.  They are treasured by a Savior who desires to be a part of their life.  Youth for Christ leaders and volunteers step into the lives of all kids, even those considered “disposable.”  We have the opportunity to model behavior and share about a loving Father.  These kids often view their own lives as a waste and disposable, after all, that is what they are being told in so many words.
That is what makes YFC’s motto “Give Life to Your Story” so powerful!  We have the opportunity to bring eternal life to a disposable story.  Is there anything better than that?
Please join us in catching the vision shared by Jesus!
